FAROESE CONSERVATION REPORT WELCOMED

Posted in | »

The report, "FO fisheries and aquaculture.pdf", on the responsible management for a sustainable future of Faroe Islands fisheries and aquaculture has been welcomed by Faroe Seafood.

The report, by the Ministry of Fisheries and Natural Resources, in cooperation with other relevant government ministries, agencies, scientific institutes and fisheries associations, described the effort management system which protects ground fish in the Faroese 200 miles fisheries zone.

Cod, haddock, coley and other ground fish stocks are regulated by an effort management system of fishing days, combined with area closures. The total fishing effort and the number of fishing licences are fixed by law.

Faroe Seafood will comply to the EU IUU regulatitions on the 1st of January 2010. Faroe Seafood will rely on its internal digital traceability system, and will be able to produce the Catch Certificate automatically as a part of the shipment of goods.

For fish from Faroe Islands imported into EU via Hamburg following will apply.

1. Catch certificate for each shipment of fish has to be send by e-mail or fax to the ministry of agriculture and food this needs to be done three days before arrival of the vessel by the importer / consignee. Each catch certificate will then get a registration number which needs to be filled in the customs clearance documents.

2. 2009 Catch: A statement will need to be presented to the authorities in order to identity 2009 catch.
